Google Wallet app was launched in the United States on September 19, 2011. Google Wallet is app that makes it possible to store all your existing credit or debit cards in your phone and make contactless payments. Google Wallet supports all major credit / debit card providers - Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Do you also have loyalty cards, discounting cards or gift cards? Add them to your Google Wallet to use them! Among the merchants accepting Google Wallet are Bloomingdales, Jamba Juice, Macy's, Subway, Walgreens and others. In general you can use Google Wallet in every store where contactless payments are accepted. It is more than 200,000 merchants across the United States.
As for online merchants supporting Google Wallet there are: 1800flowers.com, Buy.com, Drugstore.com, eCost.com, and Timberland.com currently are in the list. Google+, Google Play, the Chrome Web Store and Youtube are on their way to accepting payments from Google Wallet too.
Another important benefit of Google Wallet is that it is free. Google plans to earn money on sponsored ads displayed to their users. Google Shopper will display 2 types of offers to users:
- today's offers, showing single offer for discounted goods or services in user's area;
- nearby offers, displaying list of offers in the categories "Eat" and "Play" nearby.
Google Wallet is an open platform. All payment processors, banks, cell phone carriers willing to take part in it are invited to participate in the system.
